Find Kent County Released Inmates

Kent County released inmates require a different search path from people held in counties with an online jail roster. A Kent County released inmate may have left a neighboring host jail, entered state or federal custody, or returned to the community. To search for Kent County released inmates, first identify the physical jail and then match its booking-out record with the Kent court file. State corrections records, supervision notices, and federal tools cover other custody paths. Kent County released inmates therefore cannot be confirmed by one missing roster entry alone.

Kent County Release Meaning

“Released” identifies an exit from one custodian. It does not always mean a return home. Kent County appears not to operate an active jail, and official state reports show that its prisoners have been housed elsewhere. Current directories point to Dickens or Garza County as common hosts, but the reports do not name a receiving county. The Kent County Sheriff must identify the jail used for a particular booking. That jail records the physical exit, while the Kent clerk preserves the court disposition.

A person may leave after bond, a personal-recognizance order, dismissal, time served, or completion of a county sentence. Other exits are transfers. TDCJ, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE may become the next custodian. Parole and mandatory supervision permit a state prisoner to leave confinement while supervision continues. A flat discharge ends the custodial sentence. Probation, called community supervision in Texas, comes from the trial court and is not the same as parole.

Discharge
An exit that completes the custodial term.
Detainer
A request or authority for another agency to take custody.
Time served
A court disposition crediting enough custody time to satisfy the jail term.
Parole
Conditional community release from a prison sentence under TDCJ supervision.

Kent Releases Cross County Lines

Kent County’s host-jail arrangement is the central fact in every release search. Sheriff records can show the arrest and transport. Dickens or Garza records can show booking, bond processing, holds, release time, and destination. The Kent court record explains the order or judgment behind that movement. These records answer different questions, so none should be treated as a complete substitute for the others.

A roster disappearance proves only that a live roster no longer shows the person. Ask for the recorded disposition and destination.

Kent County Release Record Fields

No official Kent, Dickens, or Garza online roster was found. The following items form a request inventory, not a claim about fields on a public webpage. Ask for existing records tied to one person and one booking. Agencies do not have to create a new report merely to answer questions.

Field or documentWhat it establishes
Booked name, alias, date of birthMatches the correct person without publishing protected identifiers
Booking number and intake timeConnects the arrest, charge, bond, property, and release episode
Charges and cause numberLinks the jail file to the Kent court case
Bond and court-order referenceShows possible legal authority for release
Holds or detainersExplains why a release order may lead to transfer
Release or transfer date and timeConfirms when the person left that physical jail
Disposition and destinationSeparates community release from agency transfer
Property receipt and booking photoDocuments the booking episode and property handling

A bond entry alone is incomplete. Staff must accept the bond and clear every hold before physical discharge. Likewise, a court may order release without recording the minute jail staff finish processing. Pair the host’s operational record with the Kent docket, judgment, dismissal, sentence, or transfer order.

Request Kent County Release Records

Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs public-information requests. Kent County publishes no sheriff-specific form or fee schedule. Requests may be written in plain language. Garza’s official jail page links an Open Records Request and Release of Information form; Dickens publishes contact details but no local form. The Attorney General request guide explains the state process.

  1. Ask Kent Sheriff which jail received the identified booking and request existing arrest or transport records.
  2. Send the named host jail a narrow request for the booking-out sheet, release time, disposition, destination, holds, and referenced order.
  3. Give booked-name variants, an approximate date, and cause or booking number when known.
  4. Ask for electronic copies and an estimate before costs exceed a stated limit. No local charge may be assumed.
  5. Request the cited court order, docket, judgment, or dismissal from the Kent clerk.
  6. If the response identifies TDCJ or federal transfer, continue with that custodian.

The public-safety retention schedule PS4200-10 sets a minimum of release or transfer plus two years for booking-in, booking-out, and release documentation. That rule does not require a public web archive. It makes a focused written request useful after a live display would have disappeared.

Kent Release Orders Share One Clerk

Craig Harrison serves as both Kent County Clerk and 39th Judicial District Clerk. The office at 101 Main Street, P.O. Box 9, Jayton, Texas 79528, can be reached at 806-237-3881. No Kent criminal case-search portal was found. Request the cause number, docket sheet, bond or personal-recognizance order, judgment, dismissal, sentence, jail credit, commitment, transfer order, supervision order, or discharge document that fits the case.

Texas has no one complete statewide trial-criminal portal, and the Office of Court Administration does not hold each local trial file. The clerk record can outlast a short custody display and explain why release was authorized. The host jail remains the better source for the exact door time. A “sentence complete” finding should rest on the actual judgment, credits, and discharge record, not on arithmetic performed from an arrest date.

Limits on Kent Release Access

Release does not automatically erase an arrest or court file. Current Texas expunction law is Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A, effective January 1, 2025. Eligibility depends on the charge, outcome, waiting period, and other case facts. A final qualifying order controls how agencies handle the record. Government Code Chapter 411, Subchapter E-1 governs orders of nondisclosure. Nondisclosure limits public access but does not mean every government copy is destroyed.

Juvenile, victim, medical, security, active-investigation, sealed, and expunged material can be withheld or redacted. A public no-result after an order is not proof that release never happened. It is also not a basis to expose restricted data. The reliable approach is to request what remains lawfully public and use the agency’s written response.

Find a Released Kent County Inmate

A named-person search begins locally and follows the custody trail. There is no official Kent current roster or recent-release list to check first. The process must discover the host before it can verify release.

  1. Contact Kent Sheriff with the name and approximate arrest date. Ask which jail held the person.
  2. Contact Dickens, Garza, or the named host. Ask whether the booking ended in community discharge or transfer.
  3. Search Texas IVSS-Counties for the exact person and correct Texas agency, then verify its result with the jail.
  4. Request the Kent docket and release, bond, dismissal, judgment, or transfer order.
  5. If the disposition shows state prison, use TDCJ. If federal or immigration custody appears, use USMS, BOP, PACER, or ICE as applicable.
  6. Request the written release record when a website or telephone answer lacks the exact type, time, or destination.

The Kent County 24-hour release page applies this route to same-day inquiries. A current-roster no-result may instead reflect a spelling mismatch, delay, transfer, or lack of coverage.

Kent County Release Notifications

Texas moved county notifications from VINE to IVSS-Counties on September 1, 2025. The system can report participating county booking, release, transfer, escape, death, and court-event changes by phone, text, or email. Search before registering, confirm the agency and case, attach the person to an account, and select available notices. A notification is informational. It is not the host jail’s certified release sheet.

State-prison and parole notices use the separate TDCJ IVSS portal. It covers TDCJ custody and people on parole or mandatory supervision, including Board decisions, bench-warrant movement, discharge dates, and prison release. The Kent County parole and probation page explains how court supervision differs. The DPS sex-offender registry covers only people with a registration duty, so it cannot serve as a general list of Kent County released inmates.

Getting Home After Kent Release

Physical discharge may occur in Dickens or Post rather than Jayton. Confirm the actual exit, expected processing time, identification rules, and pickup point with the host jail before traveling. Double Mountain Coach is a general-public demand-response transit provider whose area includes Kent County. No source says Dickens or Garza jail books that ride, and immediate service from either facility is not assured. Contact the operator and host jail in advance.

TDCJ release logistics are separate. State prison processing generally runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays other than holidays. Depending on release type, TDCJ may address clothing, a bus voucher, trust funds, or statutory gate money. Government Code §501.015(b) excludes state-jail inmates from release money. None of those statewide prison practices may be attributed to a Dickens or Garza county-jail discharge.

Federal and ICE Kent Transfers

Kent County lies in the U.S. Marshals Service Northern District of Texas. A federal defendant may sit in a local contract bed while USMS remains the legal custodian. Movement from a host jail can therefore be a federal transfer. For sentenced federal prisoners, the BOP locator accepts a register number in the format #####-### or a name with optional age, race, and sex. Results show a BOP release date and location.

“Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” speaks only to BOP custody. It does not exclude another agency or federal supervised release. ICE’s locator has its own coverage and privacy limits, and a no-result is not universal proof of freedom. Ask the host jail for the receiving agency, then use the correct custodian and court record.

Old Kent Jail Is Historical

The Old Kent County Jail near Clairemont is an 1894 red-sandstone landmark. It became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1965. It is not a modern custody or release site. Search results can also lead to Kent County, Michigan, or the City of Kent, Washington. Their jail viewers and mobile apps do not cover Kent County, Texas.

Use the Texas Historical Commission landmark record for the old jail’s history, not for a current booking. Modern release research starts with the Kent Sheriff office in Jayton and follows the person to the actual host.

Kent County Release Facilities

Kent County Sheriff’s Office handles arrests, transport, and local records but is not proven to operate a jail at its Jayton address. Dickens County Jail is a reported neighboring host and holds the operational release record when it booked the person. Garza County Jail in Post is another reported host and publishes official records-form links. Ask Kent Sheriff which one, or another facility, held the exact booking.

The physical facility and legal custodian can differ. A Kent arrest can remain a Kent court matter while another county supplies the bed and completes release processing. Federal defendants may occupy a county contract bed under USMS authority, and an immigration detainer can direct a local booking into ICE custody. For that reason, ask two separate questions: which building held the person, and which agency controlled the next move? A clear answer should name the booking, recorded disposition, and destination. If staff say only that the person is “no longer here,” request the booking-out entry and follow the receiving agency until the custody chain reaches community discharge or another confirmed status.
