Kent County Projected and Actual Release Dates
TDCJ defines projected release as the date Classification and Records calculates for release if parole does not happen sooner. Offense title and offense date affect that projection. For some mandatory-supervision-eligible sentences, the projected date can reflect calendar time plus accrued good conduct time reaching the maximum term. For other cases, it may be the maximum-expiration date. The field forecasts a possible future TDCJ exit and can change.
A Kent arrestee may be physically held in Dickens County Jail or Garza County Jail. A pretrial booking turns on bond, court orders, and holds, not TDCJ good-time rules. Even after bond is posted, another hold can prevent physical discharge. Ask the host jail whether processing is complete.
How to Find a Kent County Projected Release Date
First establish the current custodian. Kent County does not appear to operate an active jail, and the reviewed official pages provide no Kent, Dickens, or Garza online roster. Kent Sheriff should identify the receiving jail. A transfer entry then determines whether to remain on the county path or move to TDCJ, USMS, BOP, or ICE.
- Ask Kent County Sheriff's Office which facility received the person and request the arrest or transport record.
- For a pretrial or county-sentence case, obtain the Kent judgment, sentence, jail-time credit, bond order, and later orders from the clerk. Ask the named host jail for its calculation and actual disposition.
- For a current TDCJ prisoner, search by TDCJ or SID number at the TDCJ offender search. A name search needs the last name and at least a first initial.
- Record the unit, offense, county, projected date, and the date checked. TDCJ says online information is updated on working days and is at least 24 hours old.
- If no result appears, do not infer release. Email pia@tdcj.texas.gov with a full name and TDCJ number, or exact birth date when the number is unknown.
- For time-sensitive confirmation, call 936-295-6371 or 800-535-0283 during TDCJ's published weekday hours.
The Kent County released-inmate search guide covers the full fallback chain when the custodian is unclear.
Texas Good Time in a Kent County Sentence
Texas Government Code Chapter 498 governs TDCJ good conduct time. Good time is a privilege tied to classification and conduct, not a reduction of the judicial sentence itself. It can affect eligibility and projections, and it may be forfeited. The calculation belongs to TDCJ after a person enters state custody.
Texas has no universal rule that every person serves 85 percent. Government Code §508.145 contains offense-specific parole-eligibility rules. Under subsection (d), some serious offenses require actual calendar time equal to one-half of the sentence or 30 years, whichever is less, with detailed exceptions and minimums. Other offenses and mandatory-supervision cases follow different rules. A percentage calculator would omit key facts such as offense date, exact statute, other sentences, and Board action.
Note: Good time may affect eligibility, but it does not rewrite the term imposed in the Kent court judgment.
A county-sentence calculation is different. Ask the Kent clerk for the actual judgment and credits, then ask Dickens, Garza, or the confirmed host for its calculation. Do not apply TDCJ rules to a county jail term merely because both cases arose in Texas.
Why Kent County Release Projections Change
A projected date is a snapshot built from the information then held by the custodian. It may move earlier or later as the legal and custody record changes. The cause should come from an official update, not arithmetic based on an old sentence length.
| Factor | Possible effect | Source to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Good-time accrual or forfeiture | Changes eligibility or a mandatory-supervision projection | TDCJ Classification and Records |
| Parole Board decision | May create an earlier pathway or set a later review | Board result and release processing |
| Treatment condition | Can delay release until a program is complete | TDCJ and the exact FI vote code |
| New court order or amended credit | Changes the legal calculation | Signed Kent court order and custodian |
| Another sentence or hold | May prevent community release | Host jail or TDCJ disposition |
| USMS or ICE transfer | Ends local custody but begins another path | Transfer record and receiving agency |
Confirming a Kent County Release Date
For a county booking, Texas now uses IVSS-Counties rather than the old statewide VINE brand. Search the exact person and correct host agency, then register for the desired contact channels if the record is available. Dickens County's official Sheriff page linked the former VINELink route when reviewed, but current users should use IVSS-Counties. A notice can lag operational processing and does not state every hold or destination.
For state prison, use the separate TDCJ IVSS portal. It covers prison and parole or mandatory-supervision events and fills part of the historical gap left by the current-inmate-only locator. The site's VINELink and Texas IVSS guide distinguishes the county and state portals. Confirm physical departure with the jail or TDCJ even after an alert arrives.
Use narrow evidence language. State the TDCJ projected date and check date for a forecast. State the host jail's booking-out time and disposition only when that operational record exists. A disappearance from a roster or locator is not an actual release date.
TDCJ Projection Sources for Kent County
The TDCJ online search displays current incarceration information, including projected release information, but only for people currently in a TDCJ facility. It is not a historical released-person locator. When a person no longer appears, use the email, telephone, TDCJ IVSS, court judgment, and Public Information Act routes.
The TDCJ definitions page explains what its projected-release field means. The captured official page below is useful for reading terminology, but the person's current TDCJ result remains the person-specific source.

If historical confirmation is needed, ask for existing incarceration history and release or discharge records. TDCJ says its email channel can provide certain information without charge, but it does not provide photographs through that channel.
Kent County Planning for a TDCJ Release
This section applies only after records show that the person is leaving TDCJ. The statewide prison process generally operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays other than holidays. TDCJ may provide clothing, transport, trust funds, and statutory gate money depending on the release type. Government Code §501.015(b) excludes state-jail inmates from release money.
Those statewide details do not describe discharge from Dickens or Garza. No reviewed local source published an exit door, family waiting area, pickup time, property process, or transport promise for either host jail. Call the confirmed facility before travel and ask whether the order arrived, all holds cleared, processing finished, and the estimated time remains current.
Double Mountain Coach has service coverage that includes Kent County, but coverage is not a guarantee of pickup from either jail. Arrange any ride directly and verify the actual release site first.
Kent County Court and Jail Calculations
A county sentence starts with the signed judgment, not an online estimate. Craig Harrison serves as both County Clerk and 39th Judicial District Clerk in Kent County. Ask for the judgment, sentence, jail-time credit, commitment order, and any later modification. The cause number helps the clerk identify the correct file and court level.
Then provide the documents to the confirmed host jail and ask what its existing record shows. Dickens or Garza may have the operational calculation if it held the person. Kent Sheriff may hold the arrest and transport record. The clerk's legal record and host jail's custody record answer different parts of the question.
A docket entry that bond was set does not show when staff finished release. A commitment order authorizes transfer and is not a community discharge. A dismissal in one case does not clear an unrelated hold. The actual host disposition should name the release type or receiving agency.
Written requests under the Texas Public Information Act should ask for existing documents and use a narrow date range. If Kent says it lacks the booking-out sheet, keep that response and send a tailored request to the host that Kent identifies.
Kent County Parole Dates Are Conditional
A parole eligibility date is the point at which review may occur, not a promised exit. Board vote codes also require careful reading. FI-1 indicates release when eligible, FI-2 identifies a future month and year, and treatment variants require specified programming. NR, SA, and DMS communicate denial or continued custody under the exact code.
A favorable vote can be withdrawn if new information appears. Program completion, release planning, detainer checks, and final processing may remain. Before a favorable vote, use the Parole Status Line at 844-512-0461. After a favorable vote, Review and Release Processing at 512-406-5202 can address completed processing when supplied a TDCJ number, SID, or birth date.
Once physical release is confirmed, TDCJ Parole Division may supervise the person. That state-prison path is distinct from probation ordered directly by a Kent court and from bond release out of Dickens or Garza.
Report a Kent County Date Precisely
Preserve the date checked, source name, identity fields used, and source limitation. For a current TDCJ screen, note that the data are at least 24 hours old and updated on working days. For an IVSS message, identify the reporting agency and event rather than treating the alert as universal custody proof.
When no TDCJ result appears, the safe statement is that the person was not found in the current TDCJ incarceration search using those details. The person may have left TDCJ, may never have entered it, or may not match the search data. Historical release requires a different record.
For federal custody, the BOP locator's Release Date and Location apply only to BOP. A Kent case may also involve USMS movement or ICE custody after a local jail episode. Follow the host-jail disposition before making a broad statement about release.
Keep a copy or citation for each result used. A later date change does not make the earlier report false if it is accurately labeled as a dated projection. It shows why projections must not be presented as completed release facts.
